Special Features:

A First Fill Sherry Butt shapes this Linkwood distilled in 1990, bringing dark sherried fruit and chocolate, with sour cherry and orange adding fruity accents. After 33 years of maturation, Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky from cask 6965 on 9 April 2024 for its Connoisseurs Choice range. The cask yielded 379 bottles at a cask strength of 49.1%. The whisky is non-chill-filtered, contains no added colouring and comes in a wooden box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pronounced sherry aromas mingle with stewed sultanas and dried figs. Clove and citrus peel complete the impression.
• Palate: On the palate, black pepper gives way to sour cherry, orange and dark chocolate. Notes of dried tobacco and toasted oak then develop.
• Finish: The finish is full-bodied, with lingering liquorice and oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Peter Brown founded Linkwood on the outskirts of Elgin in Speyside in 1821; production began in 1825. The distillery remained in the Brown family until the end of the 19th century and now belongs to Diageo. Following the construction of a second distillery facility in 1971, two neighbouring sites operated as Linkwood A and Linkwood B. Gordon & MacPhail has a relationship with Linkwood stretching back more than a century. For this single-cask release, the independent bottler had the whisky matured in a Sherry Butt before bottling it for its Connoisseurs Choice range.
