Thirty years in first-fill Sherry Butt 7268 define this Connoisseurs Choice release. The whisky brings together Sherry aromas and stewed raisins with fresh citrus and autumn spices. Distilled by Linkwood in 1991, it was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail on 14 December 2021 at a cask strength of 53.1%. The cask yielded 549 bottles of 0.7 litres each. This single malt is non-chill-filtered, contains no added colouring and comes in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sherry aromas are followed by fresh lemon zest and a hint of blueberry.
• Palate: Sweet citrus notes mingle with stewed raisins and autumn spices.
• Finish: The finish is richly fruity and fades with a light herbal note.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of Linkwood Distillery near Elgin in Speyside dates back to the 1820s and is associated with Peter Brown. In the early 1970s, a second facility was added opposite the original site. The older Linkwood A and newer Linkwood B operated side by side for a time; the older site ceased regular production in 1985. Clear wort, long fermentation and slow distillation with extensive copper contact characterise the distillery’s working methods. The Linkwood brand belongs to Diageo Scotland Limited.

Gordon & MacPhail began in Elgin in 1895 as a grocery and spirits merchant before developing into an independent whisky bottler. The company selects wood and cask preparation to suit each distillate; its Sherry casks are made in Jerez to its specifications and prepared before use. George Urquhart introduced the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968 to bring single malts from different Scottish distilleries to drinkers as individual releases. For this Linkwood, Gordon & MacPhail selected the whisky from cask 7268 for bottling.
