Special Features:

First-fill Bourbon Barrels shape this Linkwood from Artist Collective 6.2. Distilled in 2012, the Single Malt matured for ten years before being bottled for La Maison du Whisky in 2022. The edition brings together whisky from several casks, making it one of the series’ small cask selections rather than a single-cask bottling. The limited release comprises 1,807 bottles.

Vanilla and honey meet floral notes and a fruity side featuring apple and pear. A distinctive powdery impression complements the profile. Milky impressions on the palate combine with herbs and spice. The whisky is not smoky and was bottled at 48% without chill filtration or colouring.

The label features Peinture Ideographique II by Yanis Khannoussi. Green lines stand out against the purple background, while a large opening in the grey gift packaging reveals the artwork. The bottle contains 0.7 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The fruity nose recalls banana, Mirabelle plum and apple, accompanied by honeyed sweetness. With air, hay and impressions of barley and ripe wheat emerge. Cayenne pepper, ginger and clove intensify the spice, while broom and mimosa add floral notes.
• Palate: Freshly pressed lemon brings a lively accent to the palate. Vanilla and milky notes of coconut and almond soften this impression. Sage, verbena and rosemary combine with liquorice, ginger and cinnamon. Towards the end of the palate, the whisky becomes malty and slightly tannic.
• Finish: The long, balanced finish begins pleasantly salty and reveals candied lemon and pear. Vanilla, praline, moss and lichen complement the lingering flavours. Fresh acacia honey and floral notes of lime blossom, lily of the valley and lilac extend the finish. Retronasally, the aromas recall pineapple and banana; malt, cinnamon, menthol and lemon remain in the empty glass.

Distillery/Bottler:

Linkwood Distillery lies in the south of Elgin, in Speyside. Founded in 1821, it began producing whisky in 1825. Its malt became a component of blends such as Johnnie Walker, White Horse, Haig and Bell’s. As a Single Malt, Linkwood is particularly often encountered through the cask selections of independent bottlers.

La Maison du Whisky is responsible for selecting this bottling. Launched in 2017, its Artist Collective series presents Scottish Single Malts from small groups of selected casks. Different distilleries, maturation styles and regions give each edition its own character. Contemporary artists create the collections’ labels; for the sixth collection, Antipodes, La Maison du Whisky worked with Yanis Khannoussi.
