Special Features:

Siol Dugall combines a medium level of peat with three distinct cask influences. The barley comes from British Columbia and is smoked with peat at the distillery in Victoria. The malt's peat smoke level is around 27 ppm, so the smoky character develops during malt processing. The whisky is double-distilled.

For this release in the Whiskymaker's Signature Selection, whiskies matured in Kentucky bourbon casks, virgin American oak and recharred Portuguese red wine barriques are married together. Tropical fruit, lemon, herbs and fragrant wood meet honey, crème brûlée, barley water and sweet smoke. Siol Dugall is bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pinewood smoke, light peat smoke and tropical fruit mingle with crispy pork crackling, rosemary, cedarwood, sandalwood and Lapsang Souchong tea. These develop into rose petals, dates, lemon zest and butterscotch, accompanied by a hint of nutmeg, cloves and ginger. Summer meadow flowers, freshly cut grass, malt extract and burnt heather round out the aromas.
• Palate: The whisky feels velvety on the palate. Sweet, malty peat smoke mingles with barley water, sweet pea blossoms, clover honey, crème brûlée and burnt caramel. Fennel seeds, lemon sponge cake and dried hay add to the flavours, while oak remains present on the palate.
• Finish: Light, sweet smoke lingers on the finish, accompanied by a trace of salt and sea breeze.

Distillery/Bottler:

Macaloney's is located on Vancouver Island, in the Victoria area of British Columbia. Founder Graeme Macaloney works on distillation and develops new cask combinations. The distillery uses hand-hammered copper stills from Forsyth's, combining Canadian barley with Scottish-influenced distillation techniques.

For Siol Dugall, the distillery smokes its own malt with peat, a practice followed by only a few distilleries. The whisky is distilled, matured and bottled in Victoria.
