Special Features:

This Jamaican rum undergoes its entire maturation at The GlenAllachie in Scotland. High-, medium- and low-ester spirits initially mature for 30 months at 86% alcohol in American and French oak. Billy Walker blends them and reduces the strength to 69% before transferring the rum to casks that previously held peated GlenAllachie spirit.

This combination of casks adds delicate peat smoke and charred cedarwood to the fruity rum. It is bottled at 46%, without added colouring or chill filtration.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pineapple and smoked plantain lead the nose, joined by cinnamon, vanilla, butterscotch and spicy smoked jerky.
• Palate: On the palate, ripe bananas, grapefruit and butterscotch meet mango and sugar cane. Cocoa, ginger and vanilla complement the fruit.
• Finish: Light peat smoke gives way to a dry, almost peppery impression with agave-like notes. The finish is medium to long.

Distillery/Bottler:

The rum comes from Clarendon Distillery in southern Jamaica. Located in Monymusk near Lionel Town, the distillery was originally linked to the local sugar factory. Since the separation of the rum business from the sugar industry in 1980, its operations have been part of National Rums of Jamaica. For this edition, Billy Walker selected only pot-still rum from Clarendon.

MacNair’s traces its roots to its founder Harvey MacNair in the 19th century. Today, Master Blender Billy Walker oversees the selection and blending of the Exploration Rums. At The GlenAllachie, he pairs rums of different origins with carefully selected maturation casks; the finished blends are bottled in Scotland.
