Special Features:

A two-year Tawny Port finish shapes this Mannochmore from Murray McDavid's Benchmark series. Distilled in 2014, the single malt first matured in Bourbon Hogsheads before spending its final two years in Tawny Port barriques being used for whisky maturation for the first time. These casks came from the Portuguese partner Caves de Murça. The additional maturation deepened the spirit's initially light, fruity character while developing its natural colour.

This bottling combines berry fruit and chocolate with malt, cereal and pronounced spice. In autumn 2023, the whisky was bottled at 50% after a total of nine years of maturation. The release comprises 1,800 bottles. No colouring or chill filtration was used; the bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, redcurrants and robust malt sit alongside cocoa.
  • Palate: On the palate, rich cereal notes combine with fruity chocolate and oak.
  • Finish: Pronounced spice and mellow fruit notes come together in the powerful finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Mannochmore is located in Speyside on the grounds of the older Glenlossie Distillery. Despite being immediate neighbours, the two distilleries produce whiskies with distinct characters. Murray McDavid's warehouses at Coleburn are also nearby. It was there that this Mannochmore underwent its finishing maturation in the Portuguese port wine barriques.

Murray McDavid was founded in 1994 by London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin together with Gordon Wright of Springbank Distillery. Their wine expertise is reflected in the choice of casks: wine, sherry and American whiskey casks all form part of the independent bottler's maturation repertoire. The team assesses the character of the spirits it purchases and selects suitable casks for further maturation. It sources freshly emptied casks directly from partner producers and regularly monitors the whisky's development in the traditional warehouses at Coleburn.
