This Private Collection bottling comes from the last Milton cask filled for Gordon & MacPhail in the 1940s. Distilled on 19 May 1949, the single malt matured for 72 years in a First Fill Sherry Puncheon. On 6 January 2022, Gordon & MacPhail bottled a total of 180 bottles from cask 383 at its natural cask strength of 48.6%.

The long cask maturation brings together sherry notes, spices and stewed forest fruits. Citrus, apple and pear remain clearly discernible alongside them, while a delicate smoky nuance emerges on the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sherry notes mingle with sweet vanilla and Seville orange. Stewed forest fruits give way to winter spices and delicate lemon zest.
• Palate: On the palate, butterscotch gives way to bright citrus notes and nutmeg. Baked apple, poached pear and honeycomb emerge.
• Finish: Apple and dark toffee linger on the long finish, accompanied by a subtle smoky nuance.

Distillery/Bottler:

The whisky was distilled at what was then Milton Distillery in Keith, known as Strathisla since 1951. Its small, unusually shaped copper stills contribute to the fruity, full-bodied character of the spirit.

Gordon & MacPhail selected a Sherry Puncheon being used for whisky maturation for the first time and monitored the whisky’s development over decades before bottling it. The Elgin-based brand belongs to Speymalt Whisky Distributors Limited; the Urquhart family has shaped Gordon & MacPhail for four generations.
