The combination of ex-bourbon casks and Spanish oak shapes this 16-year-old Old Pulteney. The Single Malt first matures in American Bourbon Barrels before receiving a finish in Spanish oak casks. Developed for travel retail, this edition combines spicy fruitiness and sweet notes with a subtle maritime accent.

This official bottling from the Scottish Highlands is not smoky and contains no added colouring. The whisky is bottled at 43% in a 0.7-litre bottle and is offered in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals spicy fruit accompanied by honey and vanilla. Subtle chocolate notes add to the aroma.
• Palate: The whisky is mouth-filling on the palate, with a pronounced impression of Christmas cake. A hint of fresh green apples and sweet toffee complement this richness.
• Finish: The long finish feels velvety and recalls chocolate cake.

Distillery/Bottler:

Pulteney is located in the harbour town of Wick on Scotland's north-eastern coast. James Henderson founded the distillery in 1826 and named it after the Pulteneytown district. Its history is closely linked to herring fishing: before road connections existed, barley arrived in Wick by ship, and the whisky also left by sea. The distillery has belonged to Inver House Distillers since 1995.

The water comes from Loch Hempriggs and flows to the distillery through a canal built by Thomas Telford in 1807. Today's equipment includes a Porteus mill, a semi-lauter mash tun and six stainless-steel washbacks. Fermentation with dried yeast takes around 60 hours. Distillation takes place in a copper wash still and a copper spirit still; the unusual shape of the wash still also inspired the bottle design. Traditional worm-tub condensers turn the vapour into liquid in water-cooled coiled pipes. The casks are stored on site in cool, damp conditions.
