Special Features:

Rìgh Seumas II Batch 3 is a ten-year-old Blended Scotch made from whiskies distilled in 2008 across several Scottish regions. Components from Islay, Speyside, the Highlands and the Lowlands initially matured in Bourbon Hogsheads before the whisky was finished in Sherry and Wine Hogsheads.

Inspired by Jim McEwan, the blend consists of 70% single malt and 30% grain whisky. Bruichladdich, Arran, Tobermory, Auchentoshan and Old Rhosdhu provide the malt components, while the grain whiskies come from North British and Invergordon. Murray McDavid bottled this Crafted Blend release from two casks in 2019 at 50%. The release comprises 914 bottles.

Red fruits and grilled lime contrast with smoked nuts, fennel and charred oak. Cereal, espresso and brown sugar shape the finish. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose reveals red fruits, grilled lime and candied fruits, including candied lemon.
  • Palate: On the palate, charred oak and smoked nuts combine with a hint of fennel.
  • Finish: The finish recalls cereal, espresso and brown sugar.

Distillery/Bottler:

As an independent bottler, Murray McDavid blends whiskies from different Scottish distilleries and shapes their further cask maturation. Its Crafted Blend series brings together malt and grain whisky. Rìgh Seumas II therefore focuses on the selection and interplay of its components rather than an origin at a single distillery.

London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin founded Murray McDavid in 1994 with Gordon Wright of Springbank. Their wine expertise found expression in the maturation of whisky in selected wine casks. In 2000, the team helped reopen Bruichladdich and brought Jim McEwan on board for the project. Today, Murray McDavid is based at Coleburn in Speyside.
