Special Features:

This 18-year-old Seaweed release brings the range’s heavily peated style to the Highlands. Before bottling, a quarter of the whisky received a finish in fresh Oloroso casks; the remaining three quarters did not undergo this additional maturation. Bottled at 40% without chill filtration, this version focuses not on high alcohol strength but on the combination of long maturation, peat and a sherry finish applied to part of the whisky. No colouring is added.

The Oloroso influence therefore shapes only part of the bottling, rather than all of the whisky. Its character combines warm asphalt and oak notes with meaty, ashy smoke and fruit such as charred pineapple, peach and nectarine. Dates and salted chocolate almonds provide a sweet-savoury contrast. Its 18 years of maturation and Highland origin distinguish this release from the range’s ten-year-old Islay bottlings.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Woody cloves and warm asphalt shape the first impression. Earthy, charred pineapple joins peach and nectarine. Apricot cream, a hint of vanilla and furniture polish then emerge alongside meaty, ashy peat smoke.
• Palate: Sooty fireplace smoke, herbal peat and old oak stand out boldly. The soft, supple texture carries dates and salted chocolate almonds, which soften the savoury impressions of Parma ham and dried meat.
• Finish: The finish combines the smoky impressions of a coastal bonfire with smoked herbs and vanilla wafers. Spice remains in the background as silky-soft stone fruit gradually unfolds.

Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire is part of &Whisky’s flavour-led selection. The Highland release is bottled by Atom Labs. Behind it stands Atom Brands, which emerged from the Master of Malt business in 2011 and develops and produces drinks brands. Bathtub Gin was its first brand, followed later by That Boutique-y Whisky Company and Drinks by the Dram, among others.

Atom Labs was founded in 2019 as an in-house development workshop. Here, Atom Brands draws on its own expertise to turn new drinks ideas into prototypes and test them. This work complements the development and management of the group’s brands.
