SLYRS Single Malt Rum Cask Finish initially matures for approximately five years in American white oak casks. The whisky is then transferred to selected casks that previously held Caribbean rum. These include casks previously used for Rhum Agricole, which is made from sugar cane juice rather than molasses. During the finishing period, the single malt takes on additional flavours from the rum casks.

Its character combines sweet, malty and woody impressions with herbal notes. The 0.7-litre bottling has an alcohol content of 46%, is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. It was named German Whisky of the Year at Meininger's International Spirits Award in 2023.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, caramel, beeswax and cedarwood combine with malty notes and a hint of chamomile.
• Palate: The whisky opens with vanilla on the palate. The flavour then becomes more intense, developing roasted notes with orange, honey and a little lovage.
• Finish: The finish is long and full-bodied, accompanied by a subtle woody note.

Distillery/Bottler:

SLYRS Destillerie GmbH & Co. KG produces and bottles its branded whiskies at Schliersee. For its Bavarian Mountain Whisky, it uses two-row spring barley from the area around Munich and water from the Bannwald spring in the Schliersee Alps. The malt is produced at a specialist maltings and gently kilned. Fermentation over several days with whisky yeasts cultivated in-house lays the foundation for the fruity, spicy flavour profile. Slow distillation in copper pot stills then preserves these aromas.

For its initial cask maturation, SLYRS uses new American white oak casks from World Cooperage. Their wood comes from the Missouri Ozark Forest and contributes vanilla, caramel and woody notes. Selected whiskies subsequently undergo further maturation in previously used casks; for the Rum Cask Finish, these are Caribbean rum casks.
