Special Features:

100 Proof is Starward's robust interpretation of single malt, matured entirely in Australian red wine casks made from American oak. Most of the casks come from the Barossa Valley and previously held full-bodied red wines such as Cabernet and Shiraz. This cask selection contributes to the whisky's rich mouthfeel. Dark fruit, vanilla and chocolate shape its character, while fruit and oak spice strike a balance in the long, viscous finish.

The whisky is bottled at 50% without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals Madagascar vanilla and pronounced notes of toasted American oak, alongside blackberry jam, raisins, dried figs and overripe plums.
• Palate: The whisky is rich and full-bodied on the palate. Vanilla, quince paste and Muscadelle raisins combine with chocolate ganache, cinnamon and baked banana bread.
• Finish: The finish is long and viscous, coating the entire palate. Baking spices from the oak, ripe figs and raisins linger in a balanced aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Starward produces its whisky in Port Melbourne. Founder David Vitale wanted to create a distinctive Australian whisky and built on its connection with local winemaking. The distillery sources its grain and red wine casks from within a day's drive. Melbourne's rapid temperature changes cause the casks to expand and contract repeatedly, encouraging interaction between whisky and wood during maturation. The distillery team also includes former brewers and winemakers who bring their experience to whisky production.
