Talisker 10 combines powerful peat smoke with maritime notes and pronounced peppery spice. This double-distilled single malt matures for at least ten years in American oak casks. Its sweetness recalls dried fruit and barley malt, providing a counterpoint to the smoke and spicy finish.

This official bottling belongs to the Classic Malts series and is bottled at 45.8% alcohol. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging. Tasting the whisky neat is a way to explore its smoky, spicy character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Powerful peat smoke leads the nose. A subtle salty maritime note reminiscent of fresh oysters accompanies a citrus-like sweetness.
• Palate: On the palate, dried-fruit sweetness combines with dense smoke and pronounced barley-malt notes. The whisky is full-bodied, intense and warming, with a distinct peppery heat emerging at the back of the mouth.
• Finish: The long, powerful finish remains warming and peppery. A pleasant sweetness accompanies the lingering flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

Brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill founded Talisker in 1830 in Carbost on the Isle of Skye. The distillery stands on Loch Harport and is the island’s oldest working whisky distillery. It was rebuilt after a serious fire in 1960 and resumed production in 1962.

Talisker’s production methods include moderately peated malt, a long fermentation and five stills: two for the first distillation and three for the second. The U-shaped lyne arms on the first-distillation stills are a distinctive feature. A return pipe sends condensed, heavier constituents back for redistillation. For condensation, the distillery uses traditional worm tubs, in which coiled pipes run through cold water. This particular arrangement shapes the distillery’s robust character.
