Extended maturation in a refill Sherry Puncheon shapes this Tamnavulin from the Connoisseurs Choice range. Distilled in 1991, the single malt spent 31 years in cask 9040502. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky on 12 December 2022 at a cask strength of 51.7%, yielding 418 bottles from the single cask. It is non-chill filtered, has no added colouring and comes in a wooden box.

The whisky brings together apple and hazelnuts with blackcurrant and vanilla fudge. Autumnal spices and black pepper complement its sweet, fruity side, while herbal notes shape the full-bodied finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tamnavulin stands on the site of an old wool-carding mill in Speyside. The distillery opened in 1966 and distilled this whisky in 1991, before its later period of closure. During production, it ferments the wort with yeast in fermentation vessels and separates the heart of the spirit during distillation in copper pot stills for subsequent maturation.

Gordon & MacPhail began in Elgin in 1895 and operates as an independent bottler working with spirits from Scottish distilleries. The company carefully selects wood and casks for maturation. George Urquhart created the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968 to make single malts available from distilleries whose whisky was then mostly used in blends. The Gordon & MacPhail brand belongs to Speymalt Whisky Distributors Limited.
