Teerenpeli KARHI spends five to seven years maturing in bourbon casks before a one-year finish in Madeira casks. This combination brings together fruity and sweet impressions, chocolate and delicate spice.

KARHI is not smoky and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. It is bottled at 43% and comes in a 0.5-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers a subtle chocolate note alongside ripe peach and sweetish oak tones. Delicate wood spice and grassy nuances round out the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, nectarine and dried apricot mingle with creamy toffee. The texture is full-bodied, while a little pepper and a hint of peppermint add spicy and fresh accents.
• Finish: The medium-length finish fades gently, leaving creamy caramel and dried fruit lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

Teerenpeli is a family-run distillery in Lahti, Finland, founded by Anssi Pyysing in 2002. Its original premises are in the Taivaanranta restaurant in the city centre. In 2015, a larger distillery opened alongside the family's brewery in the Lotila district. Both sites remained in operation, with the original facility also used for product development.

Teerenpeli distils in copper pot stills handcrafted in Scotland. Alongside bourbon and sherry casks, the distillery uses former port, Madeira and rum casks for selected bottlings. Finnish barley and groundwater from the Salpausselkä area are among the foundations of its production. Some of Teerenpeli's casks are stored in repurposed shipping containers, where Finland's temperature fluctuations influence maturation.

Since 2015, an on-site wood pellet plant has supplied process heat for the brewery and distillery. The pellets are made from residues from Finnish sawmills. Teerenpeli also keeps raw material transport distances short: most of the barley used for its malt is grown within 150 kilometres of the distillery.
