Special Features:

For Palo, Teerenpeli combines lightly peated spirit with full maturation in sherry casks. The whisky matures in selected former Pedro-Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks in the distillery's shipping-container warehouses in Lahti. The Finnish climate is therefore part of this whisky's maturation environment.

Palo was released in autumn 2022 to mark the distillery's 20th anniversary. Its bottling strength of 46% was chosen during a live-streamed blind tasting with Teerenpeli brand ambassadors. It brings together the spirit's gently smoky character and the fruity influences of the sherry casks. The whisky is bottled without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Cherries and plums emerge on the nose, accompanied by gentle smoke. The aroma is distinctly fruity and powerful.
• Palate: On the palate, dried fruit meets peat notes and a hint of liquorice.
• Finish: Figs and walnuts linger through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Teerenpeli is a family-run distillery in Lahti, Finland, founded by Anssi Pyysing in 2002. The original facility is located in the Taivaanranta restaurant in the city centre and remains in operation for distillation and product development. A larger distillery opened at the Teerenpeli brewery site in Lotila in 2015. Teerenpeli uses traditional copper pot stills handcrafted in Scotland.

The brewery and distillery work closely together. Since 2015, their own wood-pellet heating plant has supplied the process heat they need; the pellets are made from residues from Finnish sawmills. Electricity for production also comes from renewable wind and hydropower. Most of the barley used for malting is grown within 150 kilometres of the distillery. These practices apply to Teerenpeli's production as a whole.
