Special Features:

Second Witch belongs to the Witches series in the second act of the Macbeth Collection. Livingstone Rare and Elixir Distillers selected a 26-year-old Single Malt from Islay’s south coast to represent this character. It matured in an Oloroso Sherry Butt and a First Fill Bourbon Barrel. The edition comprises 750 bottles at 49.5% alcohol.

Medicinal notes and coal smoke meet rich vanilla and dark dried fruits. The combination of sherry and bourbon casks contributes to this contrast. Dave Broom’s character text explores the figure’s dark side through images of tar, camphor, pine forest and moss; fruit, oak and herbal impressions also emerge in the tasting.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals roasted pineapple, blackcurrants and lemon zest alongside a hint of ash.
• Palate: The whisky feels full and waxy on the palate. Mango, honeycomb and black liquorice combine with wood smoke and a savoury note reminiscent of grilled prawns.
• Finish: The long finish remains sweet and spicy, with lingering smoke reminiscent of rubber.

Distillery/Bottler:

Livingstone Rare and Elixir Distillers jointly develop the Macbeth Collection: 42 Scotch whiskies embody characters from Shakespeare’s tragedy. Livingstone Rare selects and bottles the whiskies in partnership with Elixir Distillers. The collection groups the characters into six series, including smoky island whiskies as witches and murderers, and whiskies from closed distilleries as ghosts. Dave Broom wrote the character texts, while Sir Quentin Blake created the illustrations. Second Witch is one of the four smoky whiskies in the Witches series.
