Special Features:

For this bottling, Whitlaw is the name used for a single malt from Highland Park Distillery on Orkney. Distilled in September 2014, the whisky matured for ten years in recharred Butts, known as Rechar Butts. Signatory Vintage bottled it in September 2024 at 46% for its Copper range. It is non-chill filtered and contains no colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in a copper-coloured tube.

Caramel, toffee and dry woody notes sit alongside fruity and floral impressions. Heather, sea salt and delicate peat smoke provide a maritime, lightly smoky counterpoint to the sweet aromas.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose combines blossom honey, caramel and toffee with ripe yellow apples, pears and peaches. Sandalwood and nutmeg add spicy accents, while redcurrants, roasted nuts and heather round out the aromas. A delicate smoky note remains subtle.
  • Palate: The whisky feels creamy and slightly oily on the palate. Caramel and toffee mingle with sea salt, dark chocolate, blackcurrants and pepper. Herbs, raisins and subtle smoke add to this sweet and spicy combination, with coffee and oak spice in the background.
  • Finish: The finish lingers and is slightly dry and woody. Dark, bitter chocolate, tobacco and a delicate ashiness accompany salty and peppery spice. A mineral nuance and a trace of smoke linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Highland Park has been producing whisky in Kirkwall on Orkney since 1798. The distillery malts some of its own barley, turns it by hand and uses heather-rich peat from Hobbister Moor. This combination of in-house malting and local peat is a distinctive feature of its production methods.

Signatory Vintage was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and his brother. Andrew developed his interest in individual whisky casks while working at Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh. The original plan was for well-known personalities to sign the bottles; the idea was soon dropped, but the company name remained. Andrew later took full ownership of the business and acquired Edradour Distillery in 2002. Since 2007, Signatory has operated entirely from its site near Pitlochry. For this Whitlaw, Signatory selected the casks individually and bottled the whisky under its own name.
