Special Features:

A finish in a small Moscatel cask shapes this anniversary release from Glen Spey. Duncan Taylor selected the whisky for The Octave series and Kirsch Import's 50th anniversary. The single malt was distilled on 4 November 2015 and bottled on 14 September 2026 after ten years of maturation. Cask 11052445 yielded 94 numbered bottles at 53.2% alcohol.

For The Octave, already matured whisky undergoes an additional maturation period in small casks. The concept relies on greater interaction with the wood: more internal cask surface area is available relative to the volume of liquid. This release combines its Moscatel finish with fruity sweetness and mild spice. It is bottled at natural cask strength and with its natural colour.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals ripe fruit and a bright sweetness. Raisins and grapes are accompanied by delicate spice and a hint of malt.
• Palate: The whisky feels full-bodied and lively on the palate. Fruity sweetness combines with dried fruit, honey and mild spices.
• Finish: The warm, spicy finish lingers. Fruit and a light oak note accompany the transition to a dry conclusion.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Spey is located in Rothes in Scotland's Speyside region. James Stuart established the distillery in a disused mill in 1878; it was initially called Mill of Rothes. It acquired its present name in 1887 following its sale to W&A Gilbey. An expansion in 1970 increased the number of stills from two to four. Glen Spey also supplies malt whisky for J&B and is relatively rarely available as a single malt.

Duncan Taylor in Huntly is responsible for the maturation and bottling of this edition. The company has spent decades exploring the influence of small casks on already matured whisky. For The Octave, the whisky is transferred from its original cask into a small Octave cask and tasted regularly during the finishing period. The whisky from each Octave is bottled separately once the desired maturity has been reached.
