Whisky Maker’s Cut centres on sherry-seasoned oak casks being used to mature whisky for the first time. They account for the entire maturation of this release from the Soleo Collection. Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion selected both the casks and his preferred bottling strength of 48.8%. The single malt is bottled without an age statement, without chill filtration and with its natural colour.

The name Soleo refers to the traditional sun-drying of grapes before sherry production, linking the collection to the Spanish wine previously held in its casks. Whisky Maker’s Cut combines creamy vanilla and citrus peel with resinous and spicy wood notes. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Resinous notes mingle with candied citrus peel and fresh oak on the nose.
• Palate: The whisky is rich and spicy on the palate, combining creamy vanilla with orange peel.
• Finish: Orange peel lingers in the long, fruity finish, accompanied by a hint of nutmeg.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Glenrothes is located in the Scottish town of Rothes in Speyside. Spirit first flowed from its stills on 28 December 1879. Slow distillation in tall copper pot stills is part of the distillery’s approach, supporting its fruity, sweet house style.

The brand’s history is closely linked to the London wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd. Its wine-trading background shaped the release of vintage whiskies from 1993 onwards. After the brand returned to Edrington in 2017, the Soleo Collection focused on sherry-cask maturation and predominantly age-stated releases. Whisky Maker’s Cut remained the collection’s expression without an age statement.
