Special Features:

Maturation in a single sherry cask makes this Glentauchers a release limited to 727 bottles. The single malt was distilled in July 2009 and matured for twelve years before Duncan Taylor bottled it from cask 85900534 in March 2022.

Part of the Single Cask Collection, this whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 54.7%. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Juicy raisins and berries mingle with sweet roasted malt notes on the nose. A hint of pineapple adds to the fruit.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky recalls a maple syrup and pecan tart. Puff pastry, juicy sultanas and candied orange add further flavours.
• Finish: Caramel, barley, dates and apricot jam emerge on the finish. A gentle peppery spice complements these notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glentauchers lies near Mulben, west of Keith in Speyside. James Buchanan and W. P. Lowrie founded the distillery in 1897, and production began in June 1898. The water supply and nearby railway connection were important reasons for choosing the site. Today, Glentauchers supplies one of the key malt components for Ballantine’s.

The distillery operates six Oregon pine washbacks and three pairs of stills. Many stages of production are controlled manually: staff operate valves and monitor the separation of the distillation fractions using a thermometer and hydrometer. Chivas Brothers specifically uses this way of working to train new distillers.

Duncan Taylor began in Glasgow in 1938 as a cask broker and trading company. Working with Scottish distilleries, it built a collection of maturing malt and grain whiskies. After Euan Shand acquired the company in 2001, it moved to Huntly and developed into an independent bottler. The Single Cask Collection focuses on individual casks rather than marrying their whisky with whisky from other casks.
