Special Features:

This 20th-anniversary edition revisits Stauning’s early style of peat-smoked single malt. It was composed of equal parts unpeated and peat-smoked single malt, all matured for at least ten years. The final vatting brought together eight ex-bourbon casks, three virgin American white oak casks, two ex-port casks and one ex-sherry cask.

Bottled at 50.02%, the edition is limited to 2,005 bottles—an allusion to Stauning’s founding year, 2005. Peat from nearby Bølling Sø, local barley and soft water from Denmark’s west coast connect this release directly with the distillery’s beginnings. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Aromatic peat smoke rests over notes of malt, bright orchard fruit and grain, with delicate herbal accents.
• Palate: Powerful campfire smoke envelops pear, apple and apricot. Fresh hay, grain, light tobacco, vanilla, heather honey and toasted oak follow.
• Finish: The finish is long, smooth and warm. Smoke, dark cherry, toasted malt, sweet dried fruit and delicate oak linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Stauning Whisky began in 2005, when nine friends started distilling in a former slaughterhouse in the western Jutland village of Stauning. During its early years, the distillery sourced peat from nearby Bølling Sø; as production grew, it later turned to other peat sources in Jutland. With Bølling Sø peat, local barley and water from the west coast, this anniversary release deliberately returns to those early methods. Stauning Whisky produced the whisky at Stauning Farm Distillery and bottled it in-house as a Danish distillery bottling.
