Special Features:

After three years of maturation in new American oak, the rye whisky undergoes separate finishes in mezcal and tequila casks, as well as three types of stout cask from To Øl and Fanø Bryghus. The stout casks previously held Mash Test Yummies from To Øl, or Red Wedding and Black Wedding from Fanø Bryghus.

The fourth release in the experimental Research Series is 4 to 5 years old and limited to 6,530 bottles. Bottled at 53.4%, it delivers a concentrated expression of the cask combination. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring; the bottle holds 0.7 litres.

Danish tattoo artist Thit Hansgaard designed the bottle artwork. It depicts the Mexican hairless dog Xoloitzcuintle alongside elements of mezcal, beer and whisky production.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals grain, cinnamon, cocoa and tobacco.
• Palate: On the palate, dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted nuts and chilli combine with notes of dark beer, hops and roasted malt.
• Finish: Notes of vanilla, dark hops and malt linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Stauning Whisky Distillery produces and bottles Dirty Bastard on Denmark's west coast. Nine friends founded Stauning in 2005 in an old butcher's shop with two small stills. Today's distillery maintains that approach through local grain, floor malting and small, direct-fired stills. For Dirty Bastard, rye and barley from Stauning are malted entirely on the distillery's own malting floors before being distilled twice.
