Special Features:

Maturation in former Cabernet wine casks shapes this reposado: Código 1530 uses French white oak casks that previously held Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. After being used for Rosa, the casks are charred on the inside and filled with Blanco tequila. Maturation then lasts around six months, with the desired flavour determining exactly when it ends.

The tequila is made from 100% Blue Weber agave, with no added sugar, flavourings or colouring. Natural agave sweetness combines with warm cask notes and a slightly smoky undertone. Alongside vanilla and toasted caramel, there are subtle hints of cocoa powder. This version contains 0.7 litres and is bottled at 38% alcohol.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, toasted oak notes meet gentle caramel.
• Palate: On the palate, the natural sweetness of agave combines with vanilla and toasted caramel. A delicate pepper note complements the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is smooth and rounded, leaving a pleasant warmth.

Distillery/Bottler:

Código 1530 is made at Varo Destileria in Amatitán, in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Founded in 2016, the brand grew out of Federico Vaughan, Ron Snyder, Betsy Heneghan and country musician George Strait’s enthusiasm for a tequila that had previously been shared privately. The distillery produces exclusively for Código 1530, with Maestro Tequilero Wilfrido Ortega overseeing production.

The agaves are cooked with low-pressure steam in stainless steel autoclaves for around 18 hours, then left to rest for another twelve hours with the doors closed. Fermentation takes approximately four days in open stainless steel tanks, using the distillery’s own yeast adapted to local conditions. The agave fibres are not included in fermentation. The tequila is then distilled twice in stills custom-made for the distillery. It is bottled directly in Amatitán.
