Maturation in red wine casks made from French white oak shapes Código 1530 Añejo. Over 18 months, it develops a full-bodied character that brings caramel and vanilla together with earthy agave notes. Código 1530 uses casks that previously held Cabernet wine from Napa Valley for its aged tequilas.

The base is tequila made from 100% agave. Código 1530 uses no added sweeteners, flavourings or colourings. This bottling has an alcohol content of 38% and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Distillery/Bottler:

Código 1530 comes from Amatitán in the Mexican region of Jalisco. The brand draws on a family recipe whose tequila was originally reserved for a small private circle. Its name refers to Los Códigos, the traditional customs of the Los Bajos region. The Jerusalem cross on the bottle echoes a motif from Jalisco’s coat of arms, whose history dates back to 1530.

Fully mature agaves are cooked in stainless steel ovens. Each agave is individually checked by hand; only plants reaching at least 32 Brix are selected for processing. Slow fermentation with yeast from a local family bakery takes twelve days. This is followed by double distillation in handcrafted stills. Código 1530 uses water from Los Bajos that is filtered through volcanic soil. These choices are part of the brand’s production process; subsequent cask maturation distinguishes its aged tequilas from the unaged Blanco.
