Don Julio 1942 is an añejo matured for at least two and a half years and produced in small batches. It is made exclusively from blue Weber agave and matured in former bourbon casks of American white oak. Its name recalls 1942, the year Don Julio González began making tequila; the edition was created to celebrate his 60 years in the industry.

The miniature contains 0.05 litres of this tequila at 38% alcohol and comes without gift packaging. It offers a small serving for discovering the bottling. A snifter is suitable for serving it, either neat or over ice.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The sweetness of cooked agave defines the nose, joined by caramel, chocolate, vanilla and oak. Dark chocolate and a hint of coffee bean add to the bouquet.
• Palate: The tequila feels silky, creamy and sweet on the palate. Vanilla and warm, spicy oak notes combine with roasted and cooked agave and tropical fruit, including mango. Dark chocolate and subtle cinnamon notes complete the flavour.
• Finish: Oak and pronounced vanilla remain present in the long, gentle finish. A delicate, fresh hint of menthol emerges as it fades.

Distillery/Bottler:

Don Julio González founded the La Primavera distillery in the highlands of Jalisco in 1942. A loan from a local businessman enabled him to get started. Warm days, cool nights and clay-rich soils shape agave cultivation there. At harvest, the jimadores select plants individually according to ripeness and condition rather than harvesting an entire field at once. Their knowledge of cultivation and harvesting has been passed down through generations.

Don Julio's production methods include slowly cooking fully mature agaves in masonry ovens and fermenting with a yeast strain developed by Don Julio González. This is followed by double distillation in copper pot stills. These steps form the basis of the brand's tequilas; subsequent cask maturation distinguishes the aged bottlings from the unaged Blanco.
