For this unaged blanco, La Escondida combines organic agave cultivation with double distillation. The Blue Weber agave grows in the lowlands of Jalisco and is harvested after six years. Its juice ferments for three days with natural yeasts in open stainless-steel tanks. After distillation, water is added to bring the tequila to 40% alcohol.

Alongside its agave character, the blanco reveals citrus and other fruit notes, together with salty mineral impressions. Its soft, balanced character can be explored neat, and it also works well in a Margarita. The bottle featuring a mermaid motif comes in dark blue gift packaging decorated with golden agave motifs.

The tequila is produced and bottled by Tequilera TAP S. de R.L. de C.V. in Amatitán, Jalisco. La Escondida is part of the Grand Mezcal S.A. de C.V. portfolio. Initially known for mezcal, the brand expanded its range with this organic tequila in 2024.

The brand name means “the hidden woman” and draws on a Mexican legend. In the story, young Josefa escapes her captors and disappears; fishermen later claim to have seen her as a mermaid in the Pacific. This motif shapes La Escondida’s visual identity. The brand also commemorates the women who continued to produce and sell mezcal in secret while its production was prohibited.
