Special Features:

Olmeca Altos Plata brings agave to the glass without any cask ageing. It is made from 100% blue agave from Los Altos, the highlands of the Mexican state of Jalisco. This bottling contains 0.7 litres and has an alcohol content of 38%.

For Plata, the agaves are cooked in traditional masonry ovens. Two methods are then combined: a roller mill processes some of the agaves, while a traditional tahona millstone crushes the remainder. For the tahona component, the agave fibres are included in the distillation. The tequila is made by combining these two distillates.

The combination of agave sweetness, citrus fruit and herbs makes Plata appealing both neat and in cocktails. A Margarita echoes its lime and lemon notes; the brand was expressly developed to create a tequila suitable for both mixing and sipping neat.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sweetish, herbal notes of cooked agave meet fresh citrus fruit. White pepper and sea salt complement the bouquet, with a very subtle hint of grilled green pepper.
• Palate: On the palate, the tequila is soft, with a slightly leathery texture. Mineral notes and sweetish white pepper emerge first, before the flavour becomes drier and spicier. Nutmeg, sea salt, straw, agave and lime zest add further detail. Agave sweetness and citrus notes of lime and lemon are also present.
• Finish: White pepper spice lingers in the clean finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Olmeca Altos is produced at Destilería Colonial de Jalisco in Arandas. Here in the highlands of Jalisco, the agaves grow in red soil at an altitude of around 2,100 metres. The brand was developed by Maestro Tequilero Jesús Hernández and London bartenders Dré Masso and Henry Besant. Together, they wanted to create an agave-led tequila that would retain its character in cocktails while also being enjoyable neat.

The distillery's methods include processing cooked agaves with a tahona stone, fermenting the sugar-rich agave juices with yeast and distilling twice in copper pot stills. The Olmeca Altos brand belongs to Pernod Ricard Group.
