Special Features:

This 40-year-old Caol Ila was selected for The Single Malts of Scotland's Director's Special series and released as a single-cask bottling limited to 135 bottles. The whisky was bottled at 49% without chill filtration or added colouring and is presented in a premium natural-wood box.

Its profile combines ripe peach and citrus with honey, herbs, honeysuckle and restrained coastal smoke. Saline minerality and mature oak lend maritime depth and maturity to its fruity, spicy character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings together vibrant citrus fruit, ripe peach and honeysuckle with a delicate touch of spice and restrained smoke.
• Palate: The whisky is rich and fruit-forward on the palate. Black pepper and further spices provide a pronounced contrast, while the texture remains velvety and slightly dry.
• Finish: The finish is long, ending dry, nutty and distinctly spicy.

Distillery/Bottler:

Caol Ila was founded on Islay in 1846. The distillery stands in the northeast of the island on the Sound of Islay, near Port Askaig. When it was rebuilt in the early 1970s, its six stills were modelled on their predecessors to preserve the characteristic style. The malt comes from Port Ellen, while the source water comes from Loch nam Ban.

Independent bottler Elixir Distillers released this whisky under The Single Malts of Scotland brand. The series dates back to 2002, when co-founder Sukhinder Singh bottled his first selected single malt cask under the newly created brand.
