Finishing in white port barriques from Portugal gives this small-batch bottling its distinctive character. Master Distiller Robert Fleming selected Tomintoul whiskies that had first matured in ex-bourbon barrels made from American oak. The whiskies were then married and finished in selected barriques previously used for white port. This maturation brings together two different types of previous cask contents.

This bottling belongs to Tomintoul's no-age-statement cask-finish range, which uses various wine and spirits casks for finishing. Here, fruity and pastry-like impressions sit alongside buttery malt and coffee notes. This non-smoky single malt is offered at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle and comes in a tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, lively stone-fruit notes and lychee mingle with lemon cake, vanilla pod and ginger biscuits.
• Palate: The palate reveals apricot Danish pastries, poached pears and tarte Tatin. Black coffee, buttery malt and baking spices complement these fruity pastry notes.
• Finish: The finish is sweet and warming. Notes of Swiss roll and strawberry trifle develop into mocha and toasted nuts.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tomintoul is located in Scotland's Speyside region, within Cairngorms National Park. The distillery has produced its single malt since 1965; in August 2000, Angus Dundee Distillers took over the business from Whyte & Mackay. Its water comes from the Ballantruan spring, and the distillery is equipped with tall stills.

Master Distiller Robert Fleming has overseen Tomintoul since 1990 and comes from a family with four generations of whisky distilling in Speyside. His work also includes selecting mature whiskies and suitable casks for finishing. For White Port Cask Finish, he combines bourbon-cask-matured Tomintoul with selected Portuguese white port barriques.
