Special Features:
West Cork Black Cask combines grain and malt Irish whiskey. Following maturation in bourbon casks, the whiskey is finished in particularly heavily charred bourbon casks with Char Level 5. This miniature is five years old.
This triple-distilled whiskey has a sweet profile in which vanilla and caramel meet toasted oak and a light hint of smoke. The miniature contains 0.05 litres and is bottled at 40%; it is not chill-filtered and contains colouring.
Tasting Notes:
Distillery/Bottler:
West Cork Distillers began distilling in 2003 in a small room behind Denis McCarthy’s home. Production moved to Market Street in Skibbereen in 2014, before the new distillery on Marsh Road opened in 2020. The company distils the grain and malt components, creates the Black Cask blend and bottles the whiskey itself at its Skibbereen site.
As the distillery expanded, some of its equipment was built in-house, including the still known as Rocket. West Cork uses both pot stills and column stills at its Skibbereen site, which also houses its warehouses and bottling facilities.
