Special Features:

The triple-distilled Maritime Port Cask is an Irish single malt produced in small batches from Irish malted barley and Mullaghmesha water. It is initially matured in first-fill bourbon casks before being finished in port casks from Quinta da Boeira.

This 0.7-litre bottling has an alcohol content of 46%, is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. Within the Maritime Range, the port finish is considered the sweetest cask expression, combining dried fruit with nutmeg, black pepper, vanilla and toffee.

The specially designed spherical bottle with its offset neck recalls historic glass fishing floats and reflects the founders’ maritime background. Ger and Denis McCarthy worked as trawler fishermen before founding the company, while co-founder John O’Connell conceived the distinctive bottle shape.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals dried fruit with nutmeg and black pepper, accompanied by vanilla and toffee.
• Palate: The dried fruit from the nose continues on the palate, while the port finish emerges as the sweetest expression in the cask-finished range.
• Finish: The finish is smooth and harmonious, with sweet fruit lingering for a long time.

Distillery/Bottler:

West Cork Distillers distils and bottles the Maritime Port Cask itself. Its Marsh Road site in Skibbereen, opened in 2020, brings distillation, warehousing and bottling together. The company operates 16 pot stills, three column stills, five bottling lines and seven warehouses there.

West Cork Distillers was founded in 2003 by childhood friends John O’Connell, Ger McCarthy and Denis McCarthy. Production began with two small stills in Union Hall, and the distillery moved to Skibbereen in 2014.
