A finish in sherry casks shapes the fifth edition of the Amahagan World Malts. For this range, Nagahama combines its own malt distillates with malt whiskies sourced from abroad. The Blended Malt thus brings together different origins with maturation in Nagahama, Japan.

The fruity sweetness of strawberry jam, maple syrup and raisins contrasts with a dry, mildly spicy finish. The whisky is bottled at 47%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals ripe fruit and baked apple. Brown sugar, dried citrus fruit and a note of leather round out the bouquet.
• Palate: The whisky feels smooth on the palate. Strawberry jam combines sweetness with a slightly tart note; maple syrup and raisins emerge over time.
• Finish: Dry notes and gentle cask spice linger on the persistent finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Nagahama Distillery is located in Shiga Prefecture, at the northern end of Lake Biwa. It began operating in November 2016 and is one of Japan’s smallest whisky distilleries. Its roots lie in craft brewing: the company has brewed beer since 1996 and brings together a distillery, brewery and restaurant at the site.

Nagahama uses small stills heated indirectly by steam for its own distillation. Their unusual shape has earned them the name Aranbic. Alongside producing its own single malt, the team focuses on blending for Amahagan. Selected foreign whiskies undergo further maturation in Nagahama’s climate, with its hot summers and cold winters.
