Special Features:

Maturation in a single Sherry Butt shapes this Kanosuke anniversary release. The whisky was distilled in September 2019 and remained in cask number 19357 until March 2026. It yielded 569 bottles for Kirsch Import’s 50th anniversary.

The single malt was bottled at a cask strength of 62%, without chill filtration or added colouring. It comes in gift packaging. Its character combines sweet fruit with malt and oak spice, while a subtle salty note provides contrast on the finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Ripe dark fruit and sweet dried fruit mingle with delicate honey and creamy vanilla notes on the nose.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied on the palate. Malt and caramel sweetness combine with nutty notes and spicy oak.
• Finish: The long, layered finish leaves cocoa and a subtle salty nuance.

Distillery/Bottler:

Kanosuke Distillery is located in Hioki on the west coast of Kagoshima Prefecture, facing the East China Sea. Yoshitsugu Komasa founded it in 2017 and named it after his grandfather Kanosuke. The family’s history of spirits production dates back to 1883. In 1957, Kanosuke Komasa had already introduced Mellowed Kozuru, a rice shochu matured in oak casks for six years.

The distillery uses long, slow fermentation and three differently designed pot stills. Different neck shapes and lyne arm angles allow it to produce distinct spirit profiles. Kanosuke also uses varied maturation conditions: alongside coastal warehouses, it has partially underground storage spaces with more stable temperatures. Hioki’s warm summers and cold winters further influence cask maturation.
