Special features: The MARS TSUNUKI Peated is the second release from the Tsunuki distillery and presents itself as a peated single malt. Distilled from Scottish, peated barley, this whisky was aged in American oak barrels and bottled in 2020 at 50% alcohol content. The release was limited to 14,830 bottles, which are packaged in a sturdy cardboard tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Inviting aromas of campfire smoke, accompanied by notes of vanilla, caramelized apple, and a hint of lemon. Subtle hints of cloves and dried herbs add depth.
• Palate: A rich, robust flavor with roasted malt, dark chocolate, and peat. Gentle hints of honey, citrus fruits, and black pepper create a balanced profile.
• Finish: Long and smoky, with lingering notes of charcoal, dark cocoa, and a slight saltiness that remains on the palate.

Distillery/Bottler: The Tsunuki distillery, founded in 2016, is the second distillery of the Japanese company Hombo Shuzo, which also operates the Shinshu distillery. It is located in the southern Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of Kyushu and is characterized by a warm, humid climate that accelerates the maturation of the whiskies and leads to more complex flavors. The distillery takes a craft approach and produces in limited quantities, experimenting with various types of malt and maturation techniques.
