Special Features:
A 20-month Oloroso finish shapes this single-cask Aberlour. James Eadie used a European oak refill Quarter Cask that had already seen previous use. The whisky was distilled on 11 December 2014 and bottled in 2025 at ten years old; the finishing period forms part of that total maturation time.
Cask 378483 yielded 176 bottles of a release selected exclusively for Germany. The single malt was bottled at a cask strength of 58.6% in 0.7-litre bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. Dark dried fruit, caramel and spices contrast with a dry wood influence.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, prunes and raisins combine with sherry-led spice. A subtle woody note complements the dark fruit.
- Palate: The whisky feels full and smooth on the palate. Caramel, malt and sweet fruit meet cinnamon, nutmeg and a dry cask note.
- Finish: The long finish remains spicy and dry. Oak and spices linger.
Distillery/Bottler:
Aberlour is in Scotland’s Speyside region, where the Lour meets the Spey. James Fleming founded the distillery in 1879. As a grain merchant, he had already established business relationships with whisky producers. His commercial success also benefited the local community: among other projects, he funded the village hall, a hospital and a footbridge across the Spey.
James Eadie is the independent bottler behind this release. The name dates back to a brewing and bottling business founded in 1854. Rupert Patrick, a great-great-grandson of the founder, revived its whisky tradition. Drawing on historical business ledgers and a surviving bottle from the 1940s, he worked with Master Blender Norman Mathison. Today, alongside the historical blend, the range includes single malts and single grains from individual casks, small groups of casks and releases with additional finishing.
