For its Highland Laird series, Bartels Whisky selected a single first-fill bourbon barrel of Ardnamurchan single malt. Distilled on 21 June 2019, the whisky matured for seven years in cask No. 1200 before being bottled in 2026, yielding 275 bottles. It was bottled at a cask strength of 58.3% ABV, without added colouring or chill filtration.

The bourbon barrel brings vanilla and sweet confectionery notes to the fore. Light fruit, dry oak and a touch of smoke sit alongside them, while a salty, maritime character remains apparent.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, light citrus and green fruit mingle with honey and vanilla. Subtle maritime spice, a trace of salt and a hint of smoke complete the aroma.
• Palate: The whisky feels creamy on the palate, with flavours of vanilla fudge and toffee. Apple and pear bring freshness, with dry oak, subtle spice and a little smoke alongside them.
• Finish: The long finish combines vanilla and oak with balanced bourbon sweetness. A delicate citrus note lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ardnamurchan Distillery is in Glenbeg on the Ardnamurchan peninsula on Scotland’s west coast and has been distilling since 2014. It uses local renewable sources for heat and electricity, including hydropower, solar energy and a woodchip-fuelled biomass plant. Fermentation takes place in both wooden and steel washbacks.

Bartels Whisky Ltd. is the independent bottler of this single malt. The family-run company selects individual casks for its Highland Laird series and bottles the whisky from them at cask strength. The Highland Laird name has been associated with the family business for more than 50 years; Bartels revived bottlings under that name in 2014.
