Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 60.2% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
A single Sherry Butt shapes this Benriach bottling: the whisky matured for 25 years in cask number 25632 before Signatory Vintage bottled it for Symington's Choice. Andrew Symington personally selected the cask for the range. This release marked the first appearance of a Benriach in Symington's Choice.
The cask was filled on 24 May 2000, and the whisky was bottled on 14 April 2026. It yielded 450 individually numbered bottles, each containing 0.7 litres. The whisky was bottled without chill filtration or added colouring, at its natural cask strength of 60.2%. It comes in a metal tin.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Fruity and roasted aromas meet on the nose: raisins, dates and black cherries mingle with roasted hazelnuts and cocoa powder, complemented by orange zest. Given time in the glass, the whisky reveals polished oak, espresso and warming baking spices.
- Palate: Figs, dried fruit and dark toffee lead the sweet, sherry-driven opening. Dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans and toasted almonds emerge as the palate develops. The whisky is full-bodied, with an oily texture and concentrated flavour. Cinnamon, cloves and black pepper add spicy accents.
- Finish: The very long, warming finish leaves cocoa, dried fruit, polished oak and nutmeg, alongside a pronounced, lingering Oloroso sweetness.
Distillery/Bottler:
John Duff founded Benriach in 1898 on the site of the former Riach Farm in northern Speyside. Its water comes from a mineral-rich aquifer beneath the distillery. Benriach produces three distinct spirit styles: unpeated, peated and triple-distilled. Together with casks sourced from different parts of the world, this variety allows for a wide range of bottlings. Today, Master Blender Dr Rachel Barrie leads the creation of its whiskies.
Signatory Vintage is the independent bottler responsible for this single-cask release. Andrew Symington founded the company with his brother in 1988, having discovered the individual character of whisky casks while working at Edinburgh's Prestonfield House Hotel. Its first release was a Glenlivet distilled in 1968. After buying Edradour distillery in 2002, Signatory gradually moved its entire operation to Pitlochry, completing the move by 2007 and adding further warehousing capacity there.
