Special Features:

This miniature set brings together three distinct Scottish whisky styles. It contains Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old from Islay, Deanston 12 Year Old from the Highlands and Ledaig 10 Year Old from the Isle of Mull. Each bottle contains 0.05 litres, giving a total of 0.15 litres in gift packaging.

Maturation and the use of peat also make this an interesting comparison. Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old matures in bourbon and sherry casks, combining sweet fruit with nuts and a subtle coastal influence. Deanston 12 Year Old matures in bourbon casks and has a creamy, honey-led malt character. Ledaig 10 Year Old, also matured in bourbon casks, brings peat smoke, medicinal notes and salty spice to the set.

All three whiskies are bottled at 46.3% alcohol, without chill filtration or added colouring. Their shared bottling strength makes it easier to compare their different styles directly.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old has a fresh, fruity and floral nose, complemented by delicate dried-fruit notes. Deanston 12 Year Old evokes summer hay and malty grain. Creamy toffee and heather honey meet sweet oak and barley sugar. Ledaig 10 Year Old combines sweetish, salty smoke with gentle peat. Hints of mild disinfectant, tarry wood-preserving oil, wax polish and mint chocolate complement floral coastal notes.
• Palate: Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old is light and fruity on the palate. Nutty sweetness is accompanied by a hint of vanilla and caramel. Deanston 12 Year Old offers a soft, creamy sweetness with hints of fruit. Malt and honey combine with spice and gentle vanilla. Ledaig 10 Year Old tastes sweetish and medicinal, with pepper and dried fruit. Powerful peat smoke meets velvety vanilla and malty creaminess.
• Finish: Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old has a long, rich and full-bodied finish, leaving a hint of sea salt. Deanston 12 Year Old finishes cleanly with a tingle of cloves that lingers before gently fading. Ledaig 10 Year Old combines white pepper, sweet liquorice and cloves with lingering saltiness on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The selection brings together three official bottlings from the Burn Stewart range. It allows a comparison of different approaches within this family of distilleries: Bunnahabhain and Deanston represent unpeated whiskies here, while Ledaig represents the peated side of Tobermory Distillery. On Mull, Tobermory produces both unpeated Tobermory and smoky Ledaig.

Bunnahabhain stands on the Sound of Islay. Its tall, pear-shaped stills with long swan necks encourage a lighter spirit character. Deanston uses unpeated barley from the Scottish Highlands and retains the whisky's natural oils by avoiding chill filtration. The differences in flavour therefore reflect not only different locations, but also specific choices in production and cask maturation.
