Special Features:

French and Italian red wine casks play a defining role in the cask selection for Eirigh Na Greine. This Single Malt brings together Bunnahabhain whiskies, including some matured in these casks, so red wine maturation applies to part of the composition. The bottling was originally created for travel retail.

Eirigh Na Greine means “morning sky” in Gaelic. The whisky combines sweet and spicy impressions with roasted nuts, fresh fruit and hints of sea salt and smoke. This limited edition is bottled at 46.3% without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 1 litre and comes in a red tube.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, gentle vanilla and caramel notes meet a hint of honey. Ripe raspberries add a fruity freshness.
  • Palate: On the palate, juicy apricots and nectarines combine with a subtle sea salt note. Freshly ground pepper adds a spicy accent.
  • Finish: The long finish remains fruity and spicy, accompanied by a delicate trace of smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bunnahabhain lies in the remote north-east of the Scottish island of Islay. William Robertson and the brothers William and James Greenlees founded the distillery in 1881; production began in 1883. A village for employees and their families grew up alongside the distillery. The name Bunnahabhain means “river mouth”. Until 1960, the site could only be reached by sea.

The water used in production comes from the Margadale spring north of the distillery. Its distinctive features include the tallest pot stills on Islay: their height makes it harder for heavier flavour compounds to reach the top, encouraging a lighter, more delicate spirit. Bunnahabhain is best known for its unpeated house style and its selection of casks that emphasise fruit, nutty notes and maritime impressions.
