Special Features:
Maturation in First Fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogsheads shapes this single malt from the original Edradour No.1 distillery. The whisky was distilled in 2020 and bottled in 2026 after six years at 57.1%. It has no added colouring and is not chill-filtered.
The Anniversary Release celebrates Andrew Symington's forty years in the whisky industry, which began in 1986. The anniversary pairing also includes an eight-year-old whisky from Edradour No.2. Available separately, the two bottlings offer a comparison between the original distillery and the second production site. This six-year-old Edradour comes in a presentation tube.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, raisins, dates and dark cherries meet dark sugar syrup, chocolate and orange peel. Pronounced PX sherry sweetness completes the aromas.
- Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and intense on the palate. Fig syrup, fruitcake, dark chocolate and caramel combine with sweet malt, roasted nuts and warming spice.
- Finish: The long, warming finish carries lingering dried fruit, cocoa and dark sugar syrup. Sweetish oak and robust PX sherry spice accompany the aftertaste.
Distillery/Bottler:
Edradour is near Pitlochry in Perthshire and was founded in 1825 by a group of local farmers. Small-scale equipment and largely manual methods are central to production at the original distillery. Malted barley and spring water are mixed in an open cast-iron mash tun. A Morton Refrigerator then cools the wort with cold water before it enters Oregon pine washbacks. Distillation takes place in two copper pot stills; water-cooled coils, known as worm tubs, condense the vapours.
Andrew Symington founded Signatory Vintage with his brother in 1988. His involvement with single-cask whiskies had begun while he was working at Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh. He acquired Edradour in 2002, and by 2007 the entire Signatory operation had moved to the distillery site. This brought the selection and bottling of whiskies from other distilleries together with its own whisky production in one location. Signatory Vintage also bottled this Anniversary Release.
