For this Cask Craft Batch 1 release, Glen Elgin’s unpeated Speyside Single Malt, characterised by fresh fruit and sweet cereal, is finished in ex-Islay hogsheads from Caol Ila Distillery. The smoke therefore comes from the influence of the casks, adding sweet smoke and sea spray to the underlying character.

The batch code is PEAT-01. The bottling contains 0.7 litres, has an alcohol content of 44.5%, is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colour.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, gentle coastal smoke, ginger, citrus fruit, honey and green apple meet a light note of vanilla.
• Palate: The whisky feels slightly oily on the palate. Ginger, yellow fruit, apple, honey and malted barley combine with gentle campfire embers.
• Finish: The long finish lingers with lemon peel, honey and ginger alongside gentle peat smoke and delicate sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Elgin was completed in 1898 at the end of Speyside’s distillery-building boom. Today, the distillery operates six stills and is one of the few Scottish distilleries that continue to use traditional worm-tub condensers.

Murray McDavid was founded in 1994 by wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin together with Gordon Wright of Springbank. The independent Scotch whisky bottler made maturation in casks with a variety of previous fills a central part of its work and is now based at Coleburn Distillery in Speyside. For this Cask Craft release, Murray McDavid combined Glen Elgin Single Malt with a finish in ex-Caol Ila hogsheads.
