Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 44.1% | Chill filtration: Yes | Colouring: No
Special Features:
This Glen Grant matured for 70 years, from 1954 to 2024, in refill sherry hogshead 1830. Gordon & MacPhail then bottled the Speyside single malt at 44.1% for The Dram Takers.
This single-cask release is limited to 66 bottles and bears a label inspired by the Book of Kells. Its two “Dram Takers” reflect the collection’s themes of community and shared enjoyment.
The long maturation combines deep, dark sherry notes and ripe red fruit with old, spicy oak. Bitter orange and grapefruit, along with cooling menthol, add freshness alongside dark chocolate, leather, tobacco and pepper without obscuring the fruit.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose brings together concentrated aromas of dried red fruit and dark sherry with orange and grapefruit zest. Leather, tobacco and cooling menthol add spicy and fresh accents.
- Palate: The whisky is dry and sherry-led on the palate. Ripe red fruit and dark chocolate meet a lively citrus note, while spicy oak, pepper and delicate herbal nuances give the flavours structure.
- Finish: The finish is long, combining leather, tobacco and nutty notes with subtle citrus freshness and warming spice.
Distillery/Bottler:
The Glen Grant was founded in 1840 by the brothers John and James Grant and is located in Rothes, Speyside. James “The Major” Grant later introduced tall, slender stills and water-cooled purifiers to select particularly light vapours. This technical approach continues to shape the distillery’s characteristic style today.
Gordon & MacPhail has specialised in maturing and bottling single malts since 1895. For The Dram Takers, the independent bottler selects whiskies from historically significant distilleries that it has nurtured in its own casks over many decades. For this Glen Grant, Gordon & MacPhail oversaw the long maturation in hogshead 1830 and its bottling in 2024.
