Special Features:
The Provence Edition is a limited release in the Beyond Speyside series. With this edition, The Glenlivet uses French white wine casks for one of its own releases for the first time. A portion of the twelve-year-old single malt undergoes a selective finish in three types of French wine cask: white wine casks from Château Sainte Marguerite, along with Rivesaltes and Sauternes casks. Château Sainte Marguerite is one of the 18 estates awarded the Cru Classé des Côtes de Provence distinction.
The cask types add different accents: the white wine casks from Château Sainte Marguerite support bright citrus and floral notes, while the Rivesaltes casks contribute nutty nuances and warming spices. The Sauternes casks add orange marmalade and crème brûlée. The resulting edition combines ripe pome and stone fruits with floral, sweet and delicately spiced nuances.
The gift packaging evokes Provence through lavender and gold tones. The bottle contains 0.7 litres, and the single malt has an alcohol content of 40%.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose opens with white peach in syrup, lemon peel and orange marmalade. Coconut, homemade shortbread, toasted almonds and floral notes follow.
- Palate: On the palate, juicy nectarine develops into crisp pome-fruit notes of ripe pear and tart red apple. Crème brûlée, marzipan and white chocolate then emerge, followed by chamomile and warming spices.
- Finish: The finish is floral, sweet, complex and exceptionally smooth.
Distillery/Bottler:
The history of The Glenlivet began in 1824 with George Smith. The distillery is located in the Livet Valley in Scotland’s Speyside region, where it produces single malt Scotch whisky. Cask Master Kevin Balmforth led the cask selection for the Provence Edition. His team monitored the finishing process and balanced the influence of the three French wine-cask types, preserving the fruity, mellow house style while adding new floral, nutty and sweet facets.
