Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 50.6% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
A PX sherry finish complements this Linkwood's total maturation of 31 years. Its final maturation took place in First Fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead number 15. The single malt was distilled on 5 June 1995 and bottled by Best Dram on 17 July 2026. The single cask yielded 347 bottles.
The sherry influence brings together figs and chocolate with leather and gentle oak spice. Despite these dark flavours, the whisky feels soft, rounded and less sweet than the PX finish might suggest. Its dry oak notes contrast with the fruit and syrup tones.
This whisky contains no added colouring and has not been chill-filtered. It is bottled at its natural cask strength of 50.6% in a 0.7-litre bottle and is offered without gift packaging.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Raisins, ripe plums and dark sugar syrup lead the nose. Caramel complements the fruit notes, while vanilla and subtle oak spice add further accents.
- Palate: The whisky feels full-bodied and velvety on the palate, almost syrupy. Dried figs, honey and brown sugar combine with an intense PX sherry influence.
- Finish: Pronounced oak spice and bittersweet dark chocolate linger in the long finish. Dry oak underlines its mature character.
Distillery/Bottler:
Linkwood is located in Scotland's Speyside region. Peter Brown founded the distillery in 1825, initially as a sideline to his farm. This agricultural venture grew into a distillery whose whisky is mainly used in blended Scotch. Bottlings as a single malt therefore offer a different way to explore its spirit.
Best Dram is an independent bottling series by Michel Reick, also known as Whisky Druid. He has released selected whiskies under this name since 2014. For his single-cask bottlings, he personally searches Scotland's whisky regions for suitable casks; working with different cask finishes is also part of his approach. This Linkwood focuses on extended maturation and the final influence of the PX sherry hogshead.
