Special Features:

For the special edition marking the 154th staging of The Open at Royal Birkdale, Master Blender Michael Henry selected whisky exclusively from the Straight Neck stills. After maturation in American oak casks, it receives a six-month finish in selected Argentinian Malbec casks. It is bottled at 46%, non-chill-filtered and at its natural colour.

The finish brings dark berries, vibrant red fruit and gentle spice to the distillery’s fruity house style. Citrus peel, vanilla, honey and soft malt provide brightness and sweetness, while blackberry, raspberry, peach syrup, crisp apple and toffee lead into oak spice and light smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals dark berries, redcurrant and citrus peel, accompanied by vanilla, honey and soft malt.
• Palate: On the palate, blackberry, raspberry and peach syrup combine with crisp apple, toffee sweetness and gentle spice, with a fine thread of smoke running throughout.
• Finish: The finish is medium in length, leaving lingering berry sweetness, soft oak spice and gentle smoky warmth.

Distillery/Bottler:

Loch Lomond Distillery combines traditional Swan Neck stills with its distinctive Straight Neck stills. Different cut points during distillation make it possible to create a range of spirit styles. A 92-hour fermentation promotes the underlying fruity character, while the distillery’s own cooperage maintains and rechars the casks.

Master Blender Michael Henry oversees the single malt range and also created this bottling. Loch Lomond Whiskies has worked with The R&A since 2018 and is the Official Spirit of The Open; specially created editions have accompanied the golf championship ever since.
