For Sutherland Batch 002, Thompson Bros. selected and married the contents of several casks of Clynelish whisky matured for eight years. The distillery stands on the coast near Brora in Scotland’s Sutherland region; the independent bottler works in nearby Dornoch. With its waxy texture, bright fruit and maritime minerality, this bottling brings Clynelish’s character into focus.

This single malt is bottled at 48% in 0.7-litre bottles, without chill filtration or added colouring. Batch 002 comprises 2,187 bottles and does not come with separate gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, maritime accents sit alongside lemon, grapefruit and a splash of lime. Marzipan, caramel and barley follow, with ripe pineapple, Galia melon and beeswax.
• Palate: The whisky feels full-bodied, oily and waxy on the palate. Lively citrus notes combine with spiced honey, a light maritime note, green olives, pineapple juice and vanilla cream.
• Finish: The long finish remains oily, buttery and creamy. Citrus oil, honey, salted caramel and toasted barley linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Clynelish distils whisky near Brora on the coast of the northern Highlands. The present distillery began operating in 1968 beside its older predecessor, which was later renamed Brora. The pronounced waxy quality of Clynelish’s spirit is linked to oily components that accumulate in the feints receiver during distillation.

Brothers Phil and Simon Thompson developed their whisky business from the Dornoch Castle Hotel. Alongside their own Dornoch Distillery, they work as independent bottlers under the Thompson Bros. name: they select whisky from other distilleries, mature it, and bottle whisky from individual casks and in small batches.
