Special Features:

The port wine finish gives Angel's Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon its second stage of maturation. The whiskey first typically spends four to six years in new, charred 53-gallon American white oak barrels. It is then blended and matured for up to six further months in 60-gallon port wine casks from Portugal. Ruby port casks are used for this finish. Afterwards, the whiskey is blended again. The finishing period depends on the flavour profile achieved rather than a fixed schedule.

The second cask maturation adds wine-like nuances to the bourbon without obscuring its underlying character. Toasted oak and dark fruit are also part of its aromatic range. The port finish is an additional period of cask maturation, not added flavouring. This bottling contains 0.7 litres at 43.3%, has no added colouring and is not chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers subtle vanilla alongside raisins, maple syrup and toasted nuts.
• Palate: On the palate, vanilla, ripe fruit and maple syrup meet toast and bittersweet chocolate.
• Finish: The finish is clean, with lingering sweetness as a hint of Madeira slowly fades.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Louisville Distilling Company produces and bottles Angel's Envy in Louisville, Kentucky. Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson and his son Wes founded the brand with the aim of developing bourbon through a second stage of cask maturation. In 2016, Angel's Envy opened the first fully operational whiskey distillery on Louisville's Whiskey Row since Prohibition. Maturation in charred oak followed by a finish defines the brand's approach; for this Signature bottling, blending both before and after the port finish is also part of the process.
