For Batch 2, That Boutique-y Whisky Company selected a three-year-old single malt from Seattle’s Copperworks Distillery. The independent bottler released it at its natural cask strength of 62.7%, with 275 bottles produced. The whiskey is non-chill-filtered, contains no added colouring and comes in gift packaging.

The bottling is part of the USA Series, whose labels portray participating distillers and founders in the style of vintage baseball cards. This bottle’s label depicts Copperworks co-founder Jason Parker playing third base. In the glass, pronounced malt notes meet dark orange marmalade, spicy oak and roasted aromas.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers rich malt and dark orange marmalade on toast, with hints of leather, aromatic cedarwood and wood spices.
• Palate: The whiskey is full-bodied and powerful on the palate. Spicy oak and toasted grain bread combine with orange oil and hints of coffee and chocolate.
• Finish: Leather and bitter citrus peel linger through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Jason Parker and Micah Nutt founded Copperworks in Seattle in 2013. Both had experience in brewing beer. For its whiskey, the distillery has the wort made at three partner breweries before fermenting it on site. It chooses brewer’s yeast for flavour rather than maximum yield. Fermentation lasts seven days at 21 °C, followed by two weeks at 2 °C.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company selected the Copperworks single malt for its USA Series and bottled it independently of the distillery. The name belongs to Atom Supplies Limited.
