Special Features:

The regular Four Roses Single Barrel uses the OBSV recipe, which pairs a rye-rich grain composition with the fruit-focused V yeast strain. The bourbon matures for seven to nine years, and each bottling comes from a single barrel chosen by the Master Distiller. It is bottled at 100 Proof, equivalent to 50% alcohol.

Since each bottle contains bourbon from a single barrel, its precise character can vary. The recipe nevertheless provides a clear foundation: the high rye content brings spice and full-bodied flavour, while the V yeast contributes delicate notes of apricot, pear and plum. Caramel and vanilla develop during barrel maturation; cocoa, cinnamon and nutmeg are also characteristic of OBSV. Rye spice and toasted oak complement the fruity, sweet profile.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dried spices and pear mingle with cocoa and vanilla. Maple syrup adds a sweet accent.
• Palate: The palate reveals delicate hints of ripe plum and cherry.
• Finish: The finish remains smooth and lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, uses two grain recipes and five proprietary yeast strains to create ten different bourbon recipes. The B grain mixture used for OBSV contains 60% corn, 35% rye and 5% malted barley. The mash ferments for at least three days before being distilled first in a column still and then a second time in a doubler.

Maturation takes place in Cox’s Creek in new, charred American oak barrels. Four Roses uses single-storey warehouses to minimise temperature differences between barrel levels. Each barrel is selected only once the bourbon has reached the desired flavour profile. For Single Barrel OBSV, the bourbon from a selected barrel is reduced to bottling strength, checked, chill-filtered and then bottled.
